The Little Dojo International Fook Yueng Chuan Association Mountain Retreat

By the little dojo | June 3, 2009

Spring and Fall are two of my favorite times of the year One for it’s renewal and the other for its reminder that all good things come to an end and the beginning of a new beginning.

It is two more days until the start of The Little Dojo / International Fook Yueng Chuan Association’s Mountain Retreat, where people from all over come together and continue learning this a most beautiful martial art; handed to us by the pioneers for further research and study.  I am so grateful to to our teachers, David Harris (Rest in  Peace) and Fook Yueng for their many hours of instruction and caring with me who was not one of the most gifted.  To Jesse Glover for his mentoring and sharing Non Classical Gung Fun and for opening new ways of looking at the world.  To Ed Hart for sharing until the wee hours of the morning on many night “the stuff” that he loved so much, and for taking hours to listen and “be there” in the Dark times.

This retreat will be very special for me personally one of my own students Chris Woiler will be teaching his specialty Infinity Knife Methods, Chris is an expert in many areas surpassing my skills with the blade and in it’s development as an Art Form in itself and the way of using the blade in conflict and more importantly as a guide to further knowledge.  This will be a highlight for everyone to see it through fresh eyes and from one who has been lifted up and is beginning to see further.

Also Non Classical Gung Fu protege Tom DeFelise student of Ed Hart for many years and current student of Jesse R. Glover will be sharing a segment on as Ed called it “the Stuff” a very effective method of movement that as Ed Said, “It just Works, They Go Down”.  Tom is an excellent teacher and practitioner of the art, I am looking forward to his insights and perspective.

I will be sharing Red Boat Wing Chun sticking and trapping sets in an intensive way, also univeral footwork methods and a continued exploration of Infintiy Knife methods.

September 11-13 will be the Sensei David Harris Memorial Mountain Retreat.  Details to be announced but plan on a special event, in memory of our Master Teacher.

Jesse Glover will Join International Fook Yueng Chuan June 5 Mountain Retreat

By the little dojo | May 19, 2009

Jesse Glover, Bruce Lee’s First Student and Assistant Instructor and author of Bruce Lee’s Between Wing Chun and JKD will be a guest at The Little Dojo / International Fook Yueng Chuan Association Mountain Retreat the Weekend of June 5, 6, & 7. Jesse Glover is one of the worlds leading experts on Bruce Lee’s fighting methods. Jesse Glover teaches privately at his school in Seattle and does select seminars around the world.

Jesse Glover and Steve Smith Inheritor of Fook Yueng Chuan have been associates for nearly 20 years sharing training concepts and fighting methods. Jesse Glover was introduced to Fook Yueng by Bruce Lee in 1959 so this will represent a 50 year association with Fook Yueng and Jesse Glover.

Fook Yueng was a teacher / mentor to Bruce Lee from 1959 to about 1966. His back ground studying with many of the top Chinese Martial Artists in the Red Boat Opera taught Fook early to respect all styles learning from them what they had to offer until they became, ”All same, Nothing”. You can see this influence coupled with Bruce Lee’s natural inventiveness culminating in what became know as Jeet Kune Do. Bruce Lee’s father was a Gung Fu Brother to Fook Yueng and as a favor Fook took Bruce under his wing in 1959 when Bruce moved to the United States picking him up from the ship in Oakland and driving him to Seattle to help him get settled.

Jesse Glover remains friends with Fook Yueng to this day.

Jesse Glover has taught many excellent practitioners over the years and taught along side many more.  Some of Jesse’s Students include, Pierre Hartmann of Switzerland, Ingolf Grabitz of Germany, Tommy Carruthers of Scotland, Tom DeFelice of Seattle, Wolfgang Rain, and many others who prefer anonimity.  Jesse is a consumate coach who is able to see instantly how to get the most out of an individual while helping that person maintain their unique way of moving.  This is a rare opportunity to train with on of the worlds finest teachers.

I would encourage anyone from any background to consider training with us at this Mountain Retreat it is a great opportunity to add essence into any art.

I have opened this event up to 10 more people as Jesse will be there. If you are interested contact SteveSmith@thelittledojo.com
