Tae Kwon Do Class
By the little dojo | September 6, 2006
Master Steve was kind enough to invite me to say a few words on this page about the Tae Kwon Do class that I’ll be teaching at the Premier Martial Arts school in Eastgate beginning September 19th.
I’ve studied Tae Kwon Do for many years and was fortunate to take it from a teacher who emphasized strong fundamentals and traditional forms. He’s a teacher for whom I have the utmost respect and I hope that the class I teach will reflect the same quality of instruction that I got from him.
In my own life I’ve derived many benefits from the practice of Tae Kwon Do, and I feel that the practice of the art has improved my performance in other martial arts as well. With its emphasis on kicks, Tae Kwon Do develops a high degree of flexibility in the practitioner. According to martial artist Bill Wallace, as well as many health scientists, flexibility offers a marked increase in muscle coordination, and protection from injuries. Flexible muscles recover more quickly after exercise and the greater elasticity of the muscle tissues improves circulation in the limbs. I’ve spent many years learning the most effective methods of improving flexibility quickly and safely.
Tae Kwon Do also teaches students to coordinate their entire bodies in the delivery of power, and develops strong back and abdominal muscles. The coordination of energy taught in Tae Kwon Do is present in every martial art I’ve encountered, and the large movements found in Tae Kwon Do make this coordination relatively easy to learn and apply. The strong back and abdominal muscles that Tae Kwon Do promotes are equally vital to the practice of virtually every martial art. A strong core allows one to transmit power efficiently from the lower body to the upper, and the abdominal muscles are the powerhouse behind many martial arts techniques.
It is my hope that the students in my Tae Kwon Do class will learn not only an efficient and effective means of self-defense, but also gain a firm grounding in the fundamentals of body coordination and movement that will enrich any other arts they may be taking and aid them in their future martial studies.

OK, I give up. Who is “me” and “I”?

Tyler Webster will be leading the Tae Kwon Do training sessions. We are under the authority of Grand Master Kelly Yuen in the Yuen Family Martial Arts Method and testing under Kelly Yuen. This method is excellent including ITF Style Tae Kwon Do, Balintawok method of sticks, and Grappling.
Classes will be held at our 1726 E. Isaacs Location starting September 19th time to be announced. This is an exciting addition to Martial Arts Choices in the Walla Walla Valley.
